Vehicle Ownership & Tuning Questions
Does Remapping Affect Insurance or Warranty?
By STX Tuning · 21 October 2026
The short answer
A remap is a modification, so you should tell your insurer. It can also affect a manufacturer or dealer warranty claim, depending on the fault and the warranty terms. We cannot promise any insurer or warranty outcome.
Insurance
UK insurers generally expect you to declare modifications that change performance. Not declaring one may give the insurer grounds to reduce or refuse a claim. Premiums vary: some insurers accept modified cars at little extra cost, others decline them. Ask before booking if this matters to you.
Manufacturer warranty
A manufacturer can refuse a claim where it believes a modification caused or contributed to the fault. Whether a remap is relevant depends on the component and the terms of your warranty. Read your warranty booklet or ask the dealer.
Finance and lease cars
Finance and lease agreements often restrict modifications. Check your agreement before any remap.
Our own warranty
