Vehicle Ownership & Tuning Questions
How to Find the Exact Engine Variant for Your Remap
By STX Tuning · 21 October 2026
The short answer
Your registration is the quickest way. Send it with your enquiry and we check the engine, ECU and gearbox. You can also confirm details yourself using the sources below.
1. V5C logbook
The V5C lists the make, model, engine size and fuel type. It does not usually list the engine code, but it narrows the search.
2. Factory power output
The model name alone is not enough. Many models are sold with several outputs from the same size of engine. Check the power in your handbook, the original advert or the manufacturer's specification.
3. Engine code
The engine code is often on a sticker in the service book, on the engine itself or in the vehicle data from a dealer.
4. Model generation
Generation matters. A Golf R Mk7, Mk7.5 and Mk8 are different. So are an Audi RS3 8V and 8Y. Check the first registration date and any facelift.
5. Gearbox
Manual, automatic or dual clutch, and which version. This affects torque limits and gearbox tuning.
6. Existing modifications
List any parts or software changes already made. This can change the right calibration.
When you have the details, search the shop or send your registration through the quote form.
