ZF 8HP — the tunable automatic
The ZF 8HP in most modern BMWs is one of the best automatics ever made, and it responds brilliantly to software. Torque limits, shift speed, launch control and even the behaviour of each drive mode can be recalibrated to match a tuned engine.
DCT on M cars

Common Questions
Which BMW gearboxes can you tune?
Primarily the ZF 8HP automatic (8-speed) found in most modern BMWs, and the DCT dual-clutch in M models. Send your registration and we'll confirm support for your exact unit.
Is xHP the same as your gearbox tuning?
xHP is a well-known third-party ZF calibration product. Where it's the right solution for your car we'll say so; where a custom calibration suits better, we'll explain why. See our xHP / ZF page for details.
Will gearbox tuning affect reliability?
Transmission variants have different capacities and condition matters. A gearbox calibration is not a reliability guarantee and does not strengthen worn components.
Support Doesn't End When Your Remap Is Complete
- Eligible software warranty. Eligible STX Tuning software work carries a lifetime software warranty. It applies to the software work itself, as set out in the warranty terms; it is not cover for mechanical parts or other work.
- Asking for help. Call or message us with your registration and what you've noticed. We'll arrange to check the vehicle.
- How issues are assessed. We read the vehicle and check whether the concern relates to our software or something else, such as a fault or worn part.
- Manufacturer updates. A dealer software update can overwrite a remap. Tell us if your vehicle has been updated and we'll advise on the next step.
- Additional work. Diagnostics, repairs or new software work not covered by the warranty are quoted before anything is done.
