What hardware do you need for Stage 2?

Stage 2 is commonly used to describe ECU tuning that takes account of supporting modifications fitted to a vehicle.

Unlike a straightforward Stage 1 remap on standard engine hardware, a Stage 2 setup may involve additional performance parts.

These can include changes to the intake, charge-air cooling or exhaust system, depending on the engine.

Some vehicles may also need supporting components or additional attention to the drivetrain.

There isn't one universal shopping list that applies to every car.

The correct hardware depends on the exact engine, existing parts and proposed ECU calibration.

That's why it's worth checking the complete setup before ordering components.

Stage 2 is a complete setup — not just a list of parts.

A suitable ECU calibration should be considered alongside the actual hardware fitted.

Already have performance parts on your car?

Not every Stage 2 customer is starting from a standard car.

You might already have an intake, intercooler or other supporting components.

Tell us what's fitted, including the product brands or part numbers if you know them.

That information helps us check which additional upgrades may be relevant and how the ECU software should be reviewed.

Don't buy the same part twice. Tell us what you already have.

Airflow & induction

Performance air intakes for Stage 2 builds.

An upgraded air intake may be relevant to certain higher-performance engine setups.

Depending on the vehicle, available components include open-cone induction kits, enclosed intake systems, performance filters and intake pipework.

The correct choice depends on the original engine arrangement and what the proposed calibration requires.

STX Tuning can help you explore suitable products before committing to a purchase.

  • Induction kits

Open and enclosed intake options for compatible engines.

  • Performance filters

Filter options for suitable intake systems.

  • Turbo inlet pipes

    Relevant turbocharger intake connections.

  • Intake pipework

    Supporting induction components where appropriate.

Explore air intake systems

Charge-air cooling

Intercooler upgrades for more involved performance setups.

Turbocharged engines generate heat when compressing intake air.

An intercooler helps manage charge-air temperature before the air reaches the engine.

On certain modified vehicles, a suitable upgraded intercooler can be an important consideration when reviewing the overall cooling system.

Available designs include front-mounted intercoolers, upgraded replacement units and other vehicle-specific charge-cooling components. The correct product depends on the engine and existing cooling arrangement.

  • Front-mount intercoolers

    Explore compatible FMIC hardware.

  • Direct-replacement intercoolers

Check upgrades using the relevant original mounting arrangement.

  • Charge-cooler systems

Ask about supported liquid-cooled charge-air applications.

  • Cooling pipework

    Check associated components where relevant.

Explore performance intercoolers

Exhaust hardware

Downpipes, sports cats & supporting exhaust components.

Some performance setups involve changes to exhaust components alongside the engine software.

The available parts depend on the engine, turbocharger and original exhaust configuration.

Relevant products may include suitable sports-catalyst downpipes, connecting sections, cat-back systems or other supporting hardware.

STX Tuning can help you check the component options for your vehicle and request a suitable installation quotation. A Stage 2 setup does not require removing emissions equipment from a road car.

  • Sports catalysts

Explore suitable high-flow catalytic-converter hardware where available.

  • Downpipes

    Check actual vehicle-specific downpipe configurations.

  • Cat-back systems

    Explore compatible rear exhaust upgrades.

  • Connecting components

Front pipes, midpipes, flanges and related hardware where relevant.

Explore downpipes

The smaller components can matter too.

Turbocharged intake systems contain more than the air filter and intercooler.

Depending on the engine, supporting components can include the turbo inlet, intake elbow, boost hoses, charge pipes and connecting sections.

Whether a component is relevant to your Stage 2 setup depends on the actual engine and proposed hardware.

  • Turbo inlets

Components connecting the induction system to the turbocharger.

  • Turbo elbows

Suitable inlet or outlet connection hardware.

  • Charge pipes

    Compressed-air pipework for compatible engines.

  • Boost hoses

Replacement or upgraded hoses and connections.

Does your Stage 2 setup need fuel-system upgrades?

Some higher-performance engine setups may require a review of the fuel system.

Depending on the engine and intended output, relevant components may include a high-pressure fuel pump, injectors or other supporting hardware.

These requirements vary considerably between vehicles. A fuel-system upgrade should not be added automatically simply because a customer selects Stage 2.

  • High-pressure fuel pumps

Where an application and requirement are verified.

  • Fuel injectors

Relevant injector options for compatible engines.

  • Fuel delivery components

    Supporting parts where needed.

  • Fuel requirements

    Confirm the calibration's fuel specification.

Check fuelling requirements for my engine

Don't forget the gearbox & drivetrain.

When torque increases, the existing clutch, gearbox and drivetrain may also need consideration.

On some automatic vehicles, compatible gearbox software may be available. On certain manual vehicles, clutch suitability may be worth reviewing.

Stage 1 or Stage 2 — what changes with the hardware?

Stage 1 and Stage 2 are commonly used tuning terms, but the hardware and software options differ between engines.

Here's a simple way to understand the distinction.

Stage 1

ECU software for suitable standard-hardware engines.

Stage 1 ECU remapping is generally intended for compatible cars with standard engine hardware. Performance estimates and pricing depend on the exact engine.

Typical enquiry

Standard car, software only.

Explore Stage 1

Stage 2

ECU software considered alongside supporting performance parts.

Stage 2 commonly involves additional hardware and a software setup appropriate for the actual modifications fitted. The relevant components depend on the vehicle.

Typical enquiry

Modified or planned hardware, plus matching software.

Explore Stage 2 remapping

Explore performance hardware from leading manufacturers.

Performance parts manufacturers offer different products for different engines and vehicle platforms.

Some specialise in induction, others in charge-air cooling, exhaust systems or turbocharger hardware.

The right choice depends on your exact car and the components you're considering.

I wanted to leave a genuine review, I got my car remapped on the 5th June 2026. Making the appointment was very easy, I didn’t have to wait too long for an appointment and had the option for someone to come to my house if needed. The remap was done within an hour or so. My light did come back on a week after the remap was done, but I was able to clear it with no issues and last weekend I took a 4 hour round trip to the beach and the light did not come back on when usually it does after about 1hr into a drive. The point of my long review is I highly recommend this company and I am very happy with the service provided.
